One-Day Certificate in Pregnancy Massage

Learn how to offer pregnant clients a massage that feels safe, beautifully supported and deeply nurturing.

Pregnancy brings enormous physical and emotional change. As the body adapts, many expectant mothers experience muscular tension, postural discomfort, tired legs, interrupted sleep and a growing need to simply feel held and cared for.

Pregnancy massage can be one of the most rewarding treatments a therapist offers- but it requires more than adding a few pillows to a regular massage.

You need to understand positioning, precautions, contraindications and how to adapt your techniques throughout pregnancy, while still creating a treatment that feels calm, flowing and beautiful to receive.

In this practical, hands-on training, Gay Riches will guide you through a complete, fully supported pregnancy massage sequence that you can confidently begin incorporating into your work.

In this practical, hands-on training, Gay Riches will guide you through a complete, fully supported pregnancy massage sequence that you can confidently begin incorporating into your work.

Who is this training for?

This specialised training is designed for massage therapists, beauty therapists and bodyworkers who already have foundational Swedish massage skills or comparable hands-on massage experience.

If your training background is a little different and you’re unsure whether you meet the prerequisite, please contact Gay before enrolling. We’re always happy to have a conversation about whether the course is the right fit for you.

What you’ll learn:

A complete lateral pregnancy massage sequence

Learn how to position and support your pregnant client comfortably in a side-lying position while delivering a beautifully flowing, full-body treatment.

Pregnancy cushions and positioning options

We’ll demonstrate how to use supportive pregnancy cushions, giving clients the choice to lie comfortably on their front or back when appropriate for their stage of pregnancy and individual needs.

Safety, precautions and contraindications

Develop a clearer understanding of pregnancy-related considerations, the areas requiring additional care and when a treatment may need to be modified, postponed or referred.

Acupressure techniques for pregnancy

Explore selected acupressure points that can be incorporated thoughtfully into a pregnancy massage to encourage relaxation and ease muscular tension.

Pregnancy-safe oils

Learn about suitable carrier oils and essential-oil considerations during pregnancy, including which oils should be avoided.

Consultation, communication, pressure and treatment flow

Learn which questions to ask, how to identify pregnancy-related concerns and how to adapt your treatment to the individual client in front of you.

Develop the confidence to use appropriate pressure while maintaining a treatment that feels connected, nurturing and professional.

Why add Pregnancy Massage to your skills?

Pregnant clients are often searching for a therapist who understands their changing body and can treat them with knowledge, sensitivity and confidence.

This training can help you continue supporting existing clients throughout pregnancy while also welcoming a new group of clients into your practice.

Pregnancy massage may provide nurturing support for clients experiencing:

  • Lower-back and pelvic discomfort

  • Muscular tension and postural changes

  • Tired or heavy legs

  • Fluid retention and swelling

  • Interrupted sleep

  • Stress and emotional fatigue

  • Changes in energy and general comfort

Pregnancy massage is not about treating a medical condition. It is about offering skilled, thoughtful bodywork that supports comfort, relaxation and wellbeing during a significant time of change.

A practical day of learning

This is a hands-on training day, incorporating demonstration, visual instruction, written resources and plenty of practical experience.

Gay will demonstrate each section of the treatment before moving around the room to guide students individually as they practise.

You’ll be partnered with another student and will take turns giving and receiving the techniques. You’ll be supported to choose a partner you feel comfortable working with wherever possible.

By registering, you understand that practical participation involves both practising with and receiving massage from another student.

Your training includes

  • A full day of practical, hands-on learning

  • A complete supported pregnancy massage sequence

  • Positioning and bolstering demonstrations

  • A comprehensive Pregnancy Massage training manual

  • Individual guidance and feedback

  • A certificate of completion

  • Continuing Professional Development points

  • Morning and afternoon refreshments

  • A relaxed shared lunch with the group
